Video: Jonathan & Alex Acoustic at Stepping Stones

We were delighted to be asked to write something about Stepping Stones Festival recently (see our post here) and can now share some videos from Jonathan and Alex’s very special acoustic performance last Saturday afternoon.  They played a great selection of old and new songs:

  • Regret
  • To The Blade
  • Undrowned
  • Final Form
  • Tin (The Manhole)
  • No Reptiles
  • Photoshop Handsome
  • Spring/Sun/Winter/Dread
  • Distant Past

EE fan Rachel was sat in the front row and was able to record three of the songs which you can watch below:

Video: Alex & Jonathan Acoustic in San Diego

Before Everything Everything embarked on their US tour with The Joy Formidable in March, they stopped in San Diego and recorded an acoustic session and interview for local DJ Tim Pyle.  They played the usual favourites Regret and Distant Past, plus To The Blade (I think this is the first time we’ve heard an acoustic version of the loud album opener!)

Festival Feature: Stepping Stones

Everything Everything are playing lots of small UK festivals during the summer months but one in particular will promise a very special experience for their fans.  Set in the grounds of Kirklinton Hall, near Carlisle in North Cumbria, Stepping Stones Festival will celebrate its 5th year during the weekend of 10th-12th June 2016.  Fans may recall that Jonathan and Michael grew up in Cumbria and Northumberland and this festival has a family connection as Jonathan’s Mum is one of the organisers!

Jonathan and Alex will be performing an exclusive acoustic set which is something you won’t see anywhere else this year. They’re scheduled to appear on the main stage at 4.15pm on Saturday 11th June and other main acts over the weekend include the legendary Steeleye Span and well known westcountry acoustic roots duo Show Of Hands.  The festival is only expected to have a maximum capacity of 400 people so it really will be a rare opportunity to see Alex and Jonathan playing up close, not to mention possibly catching them for a chat at the bar before or after their set!

Tickets for the whole weekend (which includes all the music and all the other events and activities) are just £70 per adult, full day tickets are £40 and single main stage concert tickets are £25.  Any adult ticket (weekend/day/single concert) admits up to 2 Under 16s for free, which has to make this one of the best value festival deals around!  Camping is available on site for £5 a person (tent or campervan) and Under 12s are free.

Interview: Alex & Jonathan talk to Total Guitar Magazine

An interview with the two guitarists in the band was published on Music Radar today.  A writer from Total Guitar magazine chatted to Jonathan and Alex while they were on their headline UK tour last November and in the interview the two talk about their musical education, influences and experience and how they write for and play their guitars.  It’s fascinating to read a more detailed piece, especially following the equally interesting interview with Michael in Rhythm recently.  I’m not sure if this interview appears in print at all but you can read the whole thing online.  Here’s an excerpt:

Alex: “Once a song is filled up with all of these great sounds do you really want to play big chords and strum? No, it would be a mess. You have to think about the sonic space that is left over. That’s how it was for the first two records. On the new album we made a conscious effort to write from a guitar point of view.”
