Gig Report: Love Saves The Day

As one of Everything Everything’s more mature fans, I went far out of my comfort zone and braved Bristol dance music festival ‘Love Saves The Day’ in order to catch the band’s hour-long slot, just before the Saturday headliners Hot Chip!  It was well worth it though as I got a great spot on the barrier in front of Alex and had a fantastic time enjoying EE’s first festival set of the year.  As appropriate for a festival that mostly featured up-tempo electronic dance music and DJ sets, the band’s set featured their most energetic and sing-along tunes.  Blast Doors was the perfect opening song, grabbing the crowd’s attention and setting the tone for what was to follow.  Energy levels were kept high with songs including Kemosabe, MY KZ, YR BF, Get To Heaven, Spring/Sun/Winter/Dread, Regret and Don’t Try.  The crowd were really enthusiastic and enjoyed dancing and singing along.  No Reptiles went down really well, as it always does, and they finished with the ideal festival set closer, Distant Past!

I took a few photos which I’ve posted in an album on the ATB Facebook page but here are a few of my favourites:

News: Everything Everything to return to the USA in August!

The band announced after their gig in New York City last night that they would be returning to the city in August.  This will be a headline gig at the Music Hall of Williamsburg in Brooklyn on 4th August and tickets go on sale next Friday (22nd April).  At the moment, the band don’t have anything much on their schedule for August so I’d be surprised if they travel all that way for one gig…could there be a US headline tour? Watch this space!

Review: Everything Everything at SXSW

Austin.360 have just posted a review of EE’s rather eventful time in Austin this past week! Technical issues, illness and the weather all conspired against the band but they still managed to finish on a high with a great show last night.

“Everything Everything takes a heart of R&B and Frankensteins it inside a body made of shouted harmonies, jagged guitar, and out-of-sync clockwork rhythms from a drumline of booming, banging drums and chirping insect heartbeats. It also felt wonderfully British: There were hints of Radiohead and other times where the band sounded like an Elbow record played at double-speed.”

Video: At The Border Exclusive – Everything Everything Early Gig!

Many thanks to Rabbie for finding this video and to Everything Everything for allowing us to make it public.  This was recorded at the Head of Steam, Newcastle in August 2008 and, despite the dodgy camerawork, features such early gems as DNA Dump, Crisis Over, Suffragette Suffragette, the very rare Hey Jude Law and a different version of Come Alive Diana!

Review: The Academy, Dublin

Golden Plec wrote a fantastic review of Everything Everything’s opening gig of their UK and Ireland Tour at The Academy in Dublin.  Here are some quotes:

The set kicks off with To the Blade, and from that moment there is not a second of silence; any pauses between songs are filled with hollers, claps, cheers and yells. At various intervals the crowd chant “Ev-ry-thing! Ev-ry-thing!”, to which Jonathan Higgs responds with modest glee. “I don’t think anyone has ever chanted for us before.” he says.

The warm rapport between crowd and band rarefies the air – the crowd know every word, whistle and pause, singing along with such fanatical fervour that at one point Higgs shoots a glance to bassist Jeremy Pritchard and mouths, “Jesus Christ.” Addressing the crowd: “You guys are fucking mental… that’s Dublin for you.”

News – Everything Everything to support Foals on February 2016 Arena Tour

Foals and Everything Everything announced this morning that they would be back on the road touring together again in February 2016.  There are 6 dates on the schedule, all in arenas in the UK and Ireland.  Tickets go on general sale at 9am on Friday 9th October, however there’s a pre-sale at 9am on Thursday 8th October just for EE fans. I’d guess that to get access to the pre-sale, you should sign up to the EE mailing list (seems to be Facebook members only) but they may just post a link on the day.
